Jazz Musician Wynton Marsalis to Perform at Florida A&M University
Date:  Monday, March 29, 2010
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location:  FAMU Lee Hall Auditorium

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida A&M University (FAMU) Lyceum series will present jazz legend Wynton Marsalis on Monday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Hall Auditorium.  Marsalis, who has been described as the most outstanding jazz musician and trumpeter of his generation, is one of the world's top classical trumpeters, composer and advocate for the arts.

Marsalis' latest symphony, Blues Symphony, celebrates the blues through different periods in American history. Comprising seven movements, each with a distinct sound and historic reference point, Blues Symphony is written in the tradition of Duke Ellington, Fletcher Henderson and Jelly Roll Morton and finds its foundation in American root music, according to Marsalis.

Marsalis co-founded Jazz at Lincoln Center, an institution dedicated to jazz education and performance.

At 48-years old, Marsalis has been honored with the prestigious Algur H. Meadows Award for Excellence in the Arts and history-making Grammy Pulitzer and Peabody awards. He was also recognized as one of America's 25 most influential people, appointed as a United Nations messenger of peace, the
National Medal of Arts and, most recently, awarded the French Legion of Honor.

Tickets for Lyceum events may be purchased at www.famu.edu/lyceum or in the Commons Box Office, located across the street from the main entrance of Lee Hall from Monday through Friday, noon to 5:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for students, $25 for non-FAMU students and $25 for senior citizens. General admission is $30 and preferred seating is $45.

Free tickets will be given out to the first 450 FAMU students with valid ID (first come, first served; registration is required).

"Greening the Southeast" Regional Summit
April 16-17, 2010
Coastal Georgia Center
305 Fahm Street

Savannah, GA 31401

The southeastern region of the United States is rich in agriculture, forestlands, wetlands and coastal sea life. Understanding how these delicate components work together in establishing a green environment and the role underserved and limited resource landowners, farmers and businesses must play in the planning process for the region will be the theme and published results of SoGreen Network’s Greening The Southeast Summit.
Come to Listen! Come to Dialogue!
  • Farming and Forestry – what are the real green business opportunities for small and limited-resource farmers and landowners and what are the first steps in getting started?
  • Non-traditional Funding Sources – if the banks and traditional funding sources will not give it to me, where can I go?
  • Climate Change, Renewable Energy Sources, Food Access and Watersheds – which sustainable agriculture, forestry, and green businesses should form collaboratives that will improve our regional environment and serve as a vehicle to impact policy change?
  • Successful Grassroots Models – who has the clean energy, climate change and environmental education/training models that are getting results in our region’s rural and urban low-income communities?
  • Green Up Your Campus – what are the first steps necessary for our regional 1890 Land Grants and Historic Black Colleges/Universities to develop green agendas for their institutions and to set forth a plan of action for the regional community?
